Pet Adoptions, Micro-Chip Clinics & Dog Training

The group, Friends of Festival Country K9s, is spearheading multiple upcoming events to benefit the community. They are coordinating pet adoptions with all the local animal shelters, offering discounted micro-chipping for pets, discounted dog agility classes, and dog obedience classes for puppies and adult dogs.


Upcoming Fundraisers include two events at Petsense, 582 South Main Street, Cedar City. Petsense will be hosting a pet adoption event that will have adoptable pets from our local animal shelters and rescues from 10am to 2pm and the group will be hosting a fundraiser for discounted pet micro-chips.

Discounted Dog Training in Cedar City

Gail Workman will be offering discounted dog training through the non-profit group, Friends of Festival Country K9s beginning January 2015.



The classes will begin with a free dog training seminar on January 14, 2015 at Gateway Preparatory Academy in Enoch.  Gail has been offering these free dog training seminars throughout Iron County since she became the Director of Education for the group in 2012.

Gail has over 30 years of experience training dogs in a variety of expertise including, obedience, tracking, flyball, agility and hunting.

Pet Food Drive to Help Homeless Animals

We have kicked off our annual Pet Food Drive for the homeless animals of Iron County again.  This year we are including Perseverance and Dust Devil Horse Sanctuaries.

In years past, we've been able to help all the animals shelters within Iron County but these very deserving sanctuaries need our help as well.

We are working with the non-profit group Friends of Festival Country K9s and they will supply a tax deductible receipt for your donation, if requested.  You may get this receipt by calling 435-865-7347.

Micro-chip & Vaccination Clinic with Dr. Mike Gamble

Friends of Festival Country K9swill be hosting theirResponsible Dog Ownership Dayon Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Park Discovery and Cedar Middle School in Cedar City between 11AM and 3 PM.

The day will consist ofCanine Good Citizen Testingwith AKC Evaluator Gail Workman and demonstrations with the Police K9s as well as agility, flyballl, and rally.  There will be local vendors, games with prizes, a purebred parade, coloring contest and more.

AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Testing in Cedar City


The location will be at Cedar Middle School and Park Discovery inCedar City, Utah.


Gail will be offering this testing for a $10 fee.  All money will go to the FFCK9s club and helps to defray costs of materials and other associated costs with offering low cost training classes, seminars, and events.

D&B's Pet Sitting hosts Agility Classes

D&B's Pet Sitting and Boarding in Cedar City Utah is hosting Pre-Agility and Agility Classes for the community.  They are on Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30. 

The cost is a $10.00 donation toFriends of Festival Country K9swhich is a group that supports all the local animal shelters and offers discounted classes and fun activities for the whole family with their dogs.

We welcome vaccinated, leashed and friendly dogs to participate in this family friendly and fun sport.

We have a new AKC Competition Sized 100' X 100' area in our back fully fenced yard.

Please sign up here to register as space is limited.   Classes begin the following week.  This seminar is a pre-requisite for those intending to take Gail’s class so you know what to expect and be prepared for.

North American Flyball Association Tournament in Cedar City

NAFA or the North American Flyball Association is coming to Cedar City for a flyball tournament.


What is flyball?  Flyball is a dog sport  in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball.

         






The Iron Dog Flyers 
and Flying Colors Flyball Teams are co-hosting a NAFA tournament in Cedar City, Utah on May 18th and 19th with the support of the Friends of Festival Country K-9s.

Pet$ense has come to Cedar City

We have a new pet store that will be opening in Cedar City.  The store is a national chain with most of its locations on the East Coast.  It is similar to Petco and PetSmart that we are so familiar with on the West Coast but is usually located in smaller demographic areas like Cedar City.

The store is being built out and expanded in the same center as where Jo-Ann Fabric is across from Smiths on Main Street.  The address is 582 South Main Street, Cedar City.  The store will be approximately 7500 square feet.

Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Cedar City


AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day is on Sept. 22, 2012 at Canyon Park East (500 E. Center Street, Cedar City) and being hosted by Festival Country K-9s beginning at 10AM.  

The American Kennel Club and Iron County’s Festival Country K-9s is committed to helping dog owners raise, happy, healthy dogs that can be kept for the pet’s entire lifetime.  

Among companion animals, dogs are unmatched in their devotion, loyalty and friendship to humankind, but owning a dog is a responsibility and a privilege.

Therapy Dogs Make a Difference in People's Lives

Friends of Festival Country K-9s and D&B's Pet Sitting will be helping out Therapy Dog International's Certified Evaluator, LeAnn Sawyer on Saturday, September 15, 2012 to evaluate dogs to be used as Therapy Dogs for hospitals, assisted living centers, rehabilitation centers, schools and other locations where they can bring comfort and confidence to people.

There are 16 dogs that are being evaluated in Cedar City on Saturday.  Friends of Festival Country K-9's introduced LeAnn at their Dog Park for a Day Event in June 2012 and interest has been gaining ever since.

Volunteering Opportunities in Iron County

The First Annual Volunteer Festival will be held at Main Street Park on September 8, 2012 from 10AM to 2PM.

DOG PARK 4 A DAY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Festival Country K-9s is hosting the Dog Park 4 A Day Event at Park Discovery from 10AM to 4PM on June 16th .

All Iron County Animal Shelters and Rescues will be there with adoptable pets.  There will be a 40' X 50' cyclone fenced area (miniature dog park) donated by Robinson Fencing, near the adoptable animals where you can introduce your pet to his or her potential new family member.  

This area will be available for dogs to run, play and socialize with other dogs for specified periods.

Cedar City Dog Park Meeting and Petition

A group of people have started a petition for this to happen.  Please sign the petition.  It can be signed at Urban Dawgz (1420 S. Providence Center Drive) or we have a copy as well.

Cedar City Arts Festival, Sat., August 27, 2011

The Cedar City Arts Festival will be held from 10AM to 8PM outside the Utah Shakespeare Festival's Randall L. Jones Theatre on Saturday, August 27, 2011.
The address is 200 West University Boulevard.
 
The artists exhibiting will be local and regional artists that will be showcasing and selling their creations. 
 
Each artist who is at the festival has had to submit an application and be looked at by a selection panel.  According to the Arts Council website, each artist's application was judged on "distinctive concept, excellent workmanship, appropriate presentation and medium".

This event is Alcohol & Drug Free FUN for people of all ages.
 
Last year the moon was bright, the music great and the bonfire blazing. It was an exciting new experience.  Bruce and I went last year just to see what a "rave" was all about (being "old fogies" we had never been to one) and we had a blast.
